Description
Behind the beach of Porto Paglia, in the marina of Gonnesa, stand the buildings of an old fishermen's village and the former tonnara.
Next to the tonnara, a number of structures were later built to store tools and offer shelter to fishermen. At the beginning of the 18th century, these shelters were enlarged until they took on the appearance of a real village. The latter consisted of a garden-plaza surrounded on three sides by houses. These included accommodation for the tuna fishermen, the dwelling of the Rais (chief of the fishermen, an expert in fishing techniques) and a small church.
In the tuna fishery, the nets were lowered for the last time in 1973; thereafter, the village was abandoned.
